I know some of you out there are wondering about the $50,000 NFL contest. How does it work? What’s the scoring system? Can I get fries with that?
Well, it’s all actually quite simple. As many of you are already familiar with, FanDuel operates on a daily – or in football’s case, a weekend – basis. As in, you pick a fantasy team, but instead of for a whole season, it’s for just one day (or one weekend). The contest operates the same way. However, the difference with the NFL contest is that there’s no limit to how many people can enter the game. Think of it as a league game (normally five or 10 players) that has no limit. So there could be 127 people in the NFL contest game during Week 1. Or one million.
How you pick your players is up to you, of course. Which means you should probably take Chris Johnson instead of Sucky McSuckpants at running back. But you do whatever you want. The contest has a salary cap of $35K, so you can’t exactly assemble a dream team. We actually make you use your head a bit.
Ok, so now how in the heck is this contest being scored? Same as the old system, which I’m sure you know all too well. Or maybe you don’t. Either way, here it is.
But, I know what you’re thinking. What if there’s a tie? Because if there’s one million people in this contest, there’s likely to be some ties. Well, we actually never thought of that, so we’re screwed! Please don’t tie!
No, I kid. Of course we thought of that. Each week we’ll give you a specific player and you’ll have to guess the number of yards that he rushes for.
Now for the last thing. What happens when I win?
Hold on there, son. First, there will be ten outright winners who go to the final. One for each week of the first 10 weeks of the NFL season. We’ll call those people finalists. If you don’t manage to become a finalist, don’t worry, there’s still plenty of money for you…you loser. For those of you who don’t win outright each week, here’s the weekly payout: 2nd $500, 3rd $250, 4th $150, 5th $100, 6th $90, 7th $80, 8th $70, 9th $60, 10th $50.
Those finishing in 11th place or lower, you get…….nothing.
If you actually do win one of the first 10 weeks outright, thus making you a finalist, then you’re on an all expenses paid trip to Las Vegas for the chance to take home (drumroll) $25,000.
First off, the finalists get two nights at Planet Hollywood: Saturday, December 4th and Sunday, December 5th. And a sweet dinner and party on Saturday night too. And $250. And a visit to the Spearmint Rhino. Wait, not that last one. The winners will have to go there themselves.
And lastly, the 10 finalists face each other in a league game on Sunday, December 5th using just the players who are playing on that day. That way by the end of the day, we can see who won. And watch the losers cry. It’ll be great.
Whoever wins that final Sunday league gets $25,000. Second place gets $10,000. Third place gets $5000. Not too shabby.
Anyway, I hope that makes everything clear. If it doesn’t, well, then just play and you’ll figure it out eventually.
So here we are. The fantasy football season is nearly upon us. Some of you are still drafting teams. Some of you have already done that. Some of you have already drafted four teams and still have to draft five others (by the way, if you’re doing that, you have a problem). But the biggest problem you face isn’t who to draft. No, you’ve done your homework there. The real question is, what the hell do I name my team? Seriously, it’s an issue that plagues us all. So, for some assistance, here’s a look at some of the greatest fantasy football team names already devised for this season (minus the extremely lewd ones).
