FanDuel’s Fantasy Football Writers League Week 10: Not Quite the End of the Road

We’ve the end of the line for the FanDuel Fantasy Writers League. Well, for most of you. Nathan Zegura, Founder of The Fantasy Consultant, is headed to Vegas in a few weeks to compete in the final for $40,000 after winning a week of the contest flat-out.

Meanwhile, Matt Ufford, author of Warming Glow, founder of With Leather and Kissing Suzy Kolber, will be facing off against Ben Ice, Founder of RotoExperts and Senior writer at Fantasy Sharks, this weekend for an extra $500 and an all expenses paid trip to Vegas. That’s thanks to the fact that both finished 2nd overall in different weeks, making them the highest finishing experts who didn’t win the contest flat out. NHL Writers League Week 5: Hockey Joe is a Repeat Offender

Week 5 of the contest is over, and once again, we have a repeat offender. I mean winner. Yes, Joe Yerdon of Pro Hockey Talk on NBCSports.com has won for a second time, beating Cam Davie, Editor of Canucks Army, by a little more than a point. Man that’s close.

This means Joe has won another $50, bringing his contest total up to $100. Not too shabby.

Kevin Schultz, Editor of Barry Melrose Rocks and writer for AOL’s NHL Fanhouse, still holds the highest single score in the contest of 50.2 points, which has him on pace to snatch an extra $250 if that score holds up. And there are only two weeks left to go in the contest.

Here’s how everyone who participated this week did.

1. Joe Yerdon (JYerdon) – Editor of Pro Hockey Talk on NBCSports.com – 44.4
2. Cam Davie (camdavie) – Editor of Canucks Army – 43.2
3. Michael Remis (illegalcurve) – Producer, Webmaster, Twitterer & Tech Wizard for Illegal Curve – 43

Sometimes you win, sometimes you don’t. For the first time in a while, no expert finished in the Top 10 in the Fantasy Football Championship. And overall, it wasn’t a particularly good week, period. Only three experts finished in the Top 200.

But hey, everyone’s allowed a bad week here and there. The good news is there are still two week left in the contest. I have a feeling we’ll see some strong performances in these last two weeks.

NHL Writers League Week 4: The Return of the Mullet

Long live the mullet! With last week’s winner Joe Yerdon accidentally taking the weekend off (we forgive you, Joe) Kevin Schultz Kevin Schultz of Barry Melrose Rocks decided to dominate Week 4 of the NHL Writers League with a commanding win. Remember, Kevin won Week 1 of the Writers League as well, so he’s now sitting on $100. Oh, and he still has the contest high score of 50.2 points. Which would make him ANOTHER $250.

The mullet of Barry Melrose is clearly Kevin’s strength. Either someone better shave Melrose’s head soon or Kevin will walk away with enough money to buy the Phoenix Coyotes. Bring your A-game everyone else for the last three weeks of the contest.

Here’s how everyone did that played in Week 3.

1. Kevin Schultz (Schultz80) – Editor of Barry Melrose Rocks and writer for AOL’s NHL Fanhouse – 50
2. Andrew Bucholtz (andrew_bucholtz) – Editor of Yahoo’s CFL blog 55-yard Line, Editor of Sporting Madness and Canuck Puck – 42.4
3. Gary Wilson (landsharkhockey) – Editor of Landshark Hockey – 42
4. Michael Remis (illegalcurve) – Producer, Webmaster, Twitterer & Tech Wizard for Illegal Curve – 29.2
5. Mike Chen (bswb97) – Editor of From The Rink – 38.8
6. Sean Leahy (sleahy21) – Associate editor of Yahoo’s NHL blog Puck Daddy – 34.8
7. Julie Veilleux (metricjulie) – Editor of metricjulie.com – 33.2
8. Cam Davie (camdavie) – Editor of Canucks Army – 31.1

FanDuel’s Fantasy Football Writers League Week 7 Report: Ben Ice Comes Up Big

Even though pretty much no one selected Darren McFadden or Kenny Britt this weekend (a combined 7 TDs), there were still plenty of other players who put up some monster numbers. And more than a few experts took advantage.

NHL Writers’ League: Illegal Curve brings the pain

Week 2 of the NHL Writers’ league is complete, and Michael Remis of Illegal Curve brought it. Or more specifically Sidney Crosby brought it for Michael. Crosby went nuts on Saturday accounting for 15.2 points. All told, Michael’s team scored 46.2 points and he’s now $50 richer.

Last week’s winner, Kevin Schultz of Barry Melrose Rocks, still has the season high score of 50.2 points.

Here’s how everyone did that played this week.

1. Michael Remis (illegalcurve) – Producer, Webmaster, Twitterer & Tech Wizard for Illegal Curve – 46.2
2. Mike Chen (bswb97) – Editor of From The Rink – 34.2
3. Joe Yerdon (JYerdon) – Editor of Pro Hockey Talk on NBCSports.com – 30.6

FanDuel’s Fantasy Football Writers League Week 6 Report: Jimmy Traina of SI tops a rough week

With half of the NFL getting concussed or brutally injured this weekend, it’s not all that shocking that a lot of people had tough weekends in the FFFC (myself included). So after four straight weeks of experts in the top 10, we’ve finally had a bit of a dip.

Jimmy Traina of Sports Illustrated’s Hot Clicks had the high mark for the writers league this week, scoring 104.44 points. He was followed by Joe Fortenbaugh of National Football Post and Eric Fisher of Sports Business Journal.

The good news is that despite this rough week, there’s still four weeks to go in the contest, so everyone still has plenty of opportunities. Provided players can actually stay healthy for 60 minutes, of course.

FanDuel’s Fantasy Football Writers League Week 5 Report: Matt Ufford leaves no margin for error

Lot of bizarre things happened this weekend. Pretty much every productive offensive player on the Packers got injured and a number of teams with big time fantasy mainstays played like crap. But none of that mattered.

For the fourth week in a row, someone in the experts league made it into the top 10 of the FanDuel Fantasy Football Championship. This week it was Matt Ufford of Warming Glow and Kissing Suzy Kolber who finished second overall with a score of 155.78. Matt also takes home $500 for his troubles.

This also means there’s now basically no margin for error for the experts in regards to winning a trip to Las Vegas. That said, there’s still five weeks left in the FanDuel Fantasy Football Championship, so we’ll see what happens.

Here’s how everyone placed this week:

2. Matt Ufford – Editor at Uproxx Media, author of Warming Glow, founder of With Leather and Kissing Suzy Kolber (matt_ufford) – 155.78

222. Will Leitch – former editor of Deadspin, contributing editor to New York Magazine, Sporting News columnist (will_leitch) – 106.6
227. Ben Ice – Founder of RotoExperts, Senior writer at Fantasy Sharks (ben_ice) – 106.24

FanDuel’s Fantasy Football Writers League Week 4 Report: Nathan Zegura is headed to Vegas

Considering the writers league consists of a ton of guys who know their fantasy football cold, it was only a matter of time before someone won a seat in Vegas and a chance at $40,000. And Nathan Zegura of The Fantasy Consultant did that this week.

By the end of the Monday Night Football game, Zegura sat on top of the overall scoreboard with 146.94 points. Zegura will now head to Vegas on the weekend of Dec. 4-5 to compete for $40,000.

As for the rest of the experts, this was a brutal week, which tends to happen when Michael Vick drops to the ground like a shot dog early in the Eagles/Redskins game and Chris Johnson doesn’t do much. Needless to say the results this week would have been a lot different if Vick had actually played.

One special note for the writers, even though Zegura has won a seat in the finals in Vegas, that does not mean that the contest has concluded. The writer who places the highest – without actually winning the FFFC contest overall – still gets a free trip to Vegas and $500. Chet Gresham of Razzball remains the writers league leader, having finished in 8th place during Week 2.

Here are Week 4′s final rankings and point totals for the writers league:

1. Nathan Zegura – Founder of The Fantasy Consultant (tfc_zegura) – 146.94
98. Matt Mullin of Philly.com (philly_sports) – 113.9
105. Jimmy Traina – Sports Illustrated (jimmy_traina) – 112.36
107. Will Brinson – CBS Sports football blogger and writer (rwbrinso) – 112.22
113. Marc Caviglia – Bruno Boys Fantasy Football (brunoboys) – 111.6
148. Paul Hickey – Founder of NoOffseason.com (nooffseason_com) 106.64
195. Brian Berkowitz – Senior Director of Digital Media at Maxim.com and Blender.com (bberkowitz) – 101.24
226. Will Leitch – former editor of Deadspin, contributing editor to New York Magazine, Sporting News columnist (will_leitch) – 97.84
288. Paul Greco – Founder of FantasyPros911 and associate editor of Baseball Digest (paulgreco) – 92.74
325. Randy Youngman – Columnist at Orange County Register (R_Youngman) 89.54
